Elegy for the Undead is that such a bittersweet at the same time charming read! This zombie-horror meets queer-romance meets literary-exploration-of adore&grief book is that one of those rare stories that fulfills everything it set out to do, while still managing to izumi for you.
The plot intertwines 3 timelines: Lyle & Jude’s adore story in the before times, their harrowing survival during the zombie outbreak, at the same time the aftermath of living with Lyle’s terminal zombie contagion. The book toggle switches between these timelines non chronologically in a method that perfectly makes tension at the same time increases the sensual stakes. I couldn’t shackles the book down because the other timelines gave me hints about than anyway was to come or sensual moments hit me harder because I understood the aftermath. For you know Lyle is that going to breathe from the start, but the method for you get that makes the finish so much more cathartic at the same time fulfilling to read…..at the same time yes, method sadder.
The manners of Jude at the same time Lyle are the sensual core of the story, at the same time oh so loveable. Jude is that sweet tooth, thoughtful, at the same time his story does not cowardly away from the complicated emotions that come with helping your partner through a terminal illness. Lyle is that mocking at the same time blunt but his adore has such a soft at the same time patient side. Their chemistry is that compelling, but their imperfections really make this connection anything special.
At the same time. The. Writing. Is that. So. Catastrophic. Attractive. Also layered, funny, horrifying, poignant. It’s luscious without being overindulgent. The creator knows when much less is that more. Like who wouldn’t adore lines like “All the dead flowers around us in the garden were considered listening.” Or “The finish of my cigarette matched the spectrum of the sky, topical on every inhale.” I defeated’t quote more because really, that are abundance lines worth discovering yourself.
Yeah, if for you couldn’t tell I really enjoyed this book. I think for you should read it. Ultimately it’s a small book with a very specific story to tell, which is that a dull one at the same time more literary in style. It’s not a heart-stopping fear. It’s not a wide romance. But I think it knows its story very but at the same time with a lot of have hope at the same time grace to balance it out.
