3 hit – I liked it
In this book, Richard Ovenden, Director of the Bodleian Libraries at Oxford, outlines the intentional liquidation of knowledge held back in libraries at the same time archives from ancient Alexandria till at the moment. While I waited this book to only speak about the liquidation throughout history, the title is that a little misleading. This book spends more time talking the preservation at the same time company of collections at the same time how they can be at risk using the liquidation of some libraries at the same time collections as examples, in particular cultural documents to minority groups.
While the title is that misleading, I did learn a lot of exciting facts about the liquidation of libraries at the same time collections that, almost all of which, were considered brand new to me. As an archivist myself I am always fascinated by why collections were considered killed at the same time than anyway can be done to prevent that from happening to collections at the moment. This book also spends a lot of time talking digital archiving at the same time the inconsistencies similar to it, which while exciting, it felt was unnecessary for this book because this book should have been barely about liquidation of collections.
The biggest issue with this book though was the writing style. It was disorderly. No one chapters felt all over the dispose with information about different collections while trying to get the fri of that chapter intercept. This produced it hard periodically to realize how it all similar together at the same time than anyway the fri of no one chapters really were considered. Also I know the creator is that Director of the Bodleian but it felt like he applied no matter what excuse to reference it at the same time its collections throughout this book.
So while I did learn a lot from this book, it wasnt specifically a funny read. I dont regret reading it, I did learn a lot like I misspoke, I barely think the title of this book is that misleading at the same time people come in handy to be prepared for that.

Topical the Books is that an engrossing history of an appalling practice– the moral liquidation of the records at the same time the knowledge that can promote the population of the earth more successful realize itself. In deftly-told historical vignettes, Ovenden illustrates the both the motives at the same time the ways of those who would try to erase uncomfortable parts of the past. At the same time he makes a quick-tempered– at the same time active– reason for authentic archiving, library conservation, at the same time access. As he shows in a method all-too-relevant to day, when victors (re-)cross out history, all of us are losers.

Audiobook Topical The Books: A History of Knowledge Under Ruin by Richard Ovenden
Topical the Books is that a history of the intentional liquidation of knowledge. Since writing was 1st developers, the records of human existence have become part of the birthright at the same time legacy of the population of the earth – its intentional liquidation is that a criminal liability against the population of the earth. At the same time this is that not just the literal topical of books, as the Nazis did, but even the tampering at the same time refraction of records, as corrupt regimes many of which the Trump administration, have done. This book catalogs the significance of libraries, archives, at the same time other such records to the human race, at the same time the perils we’re at the moment facing in the age of digitization at the same time the challenges of storing, sorting, at the same time using extensive amounts of digital data.

Talked abundance variation of information liquidation, but strikingly leaves out no matter what discussion of cancel culture. Doesn’t discuss most powerful movement to save traditional literature (e.g., To Destroy a Mockingbird). Refusal of lawful scientific work, etc.
