Almost all favorite science books on consciousness start with the human brain: this makes sense as it is that the consciousness we know best. In Metazoa, the philosopher Peter Godfrey-Smith takes a different tack. He looks at how paradoxes such as fri of opinion, subjectivity, sentience at the same time other nuances of consciousness have likely evolved in the different bio kingdoms. This allows him to developer a broader opinion of consciousness than the sample lights on metaphor.
It is that exciting to read Godfrey-Smiths speculations about the consciousness of different eternal aquatic at the same time terrestrial species. At the same time he successfully builds a plausible acc of consciousness as evolution proceeds from sponge to fish to mammal.
In short, its a serious book with a serious intent to change the scientific/philosophical conversation around consciousness. It may but succeed in doing so. But if for you are looking for genuinely brand new scientific paradoxes for you may be upset.
For you might feel that one more book containing one more theory of consciousnesseven but supported by reason at the same time evidence-is just a little troublesome. That are so many theories of consciousness getting hosted that for you barely dont feel like reading one more one.
But for those who are interested in the ever evolving conversation around consciousnessboth human at the same time animalthis provides a well-written at the same time well-argued perspective. For those who like their science to be more settled, or have barely read very abundance theories of consciousness to keep trace of them anymore, one more book might be a more successful choice.

Creator Peter Godfrey-Smith has written an exciting, informative at the same time alluring book that bestows the reader lots of information to see. I was searching for some reason to read that would activate my believed processes at the same time found this…So glad that I found this one. I will also admit that it has been over 55 years since I thought about protozoa at the same time anemones….
The text is that exhibited right at the same time concisely at the same time at the finish the creator has a lot of foot notes that accompany the text. The drawings at the finish are completely breathtaking at the same time contain types of coral, tube lips, a whale shark at the same time more…(The Zoom is that in effect for those readers that would like the drawings larger).
First, I felt as though I was underwater exploring the sea with him. The lips, the shrimp at the same time the octopus all captivated my attention. The nervous systems of all (apart from the sponge) are explained at this fri. Later in the text, Haeckel, Darwin at the same time other are mentioned many of which Descartes. Peter Godfrey-Smith is that a uniqueness – a science writer who connects with the layman. ALthough this treatise is that amazing the creator yearns for an even clearer ways to elucidate the theme. The writing is that literary, even poetic. He presents, through the tests at the same time research work of innumerable scientists, philosophers at the same time famous people, today's ideas on the theme.
We start first, in the sea at indefinite’s creation at the same time how this is that reflected in all living things. We meet “Adam”, an ancient flatworm at the same time the ancestor of all animals. I did not reading premature on when the creator began to discuss the connection of the digital computer at the same time the mind. Suspicious, I immediately searched for “pensose” in the text.
