The impetus may have been the doom of his enslaved wife, but Greenish himself–also dignified Esau Hazel in no one accounts–was free before ever since, possibly even never enslaved, according to the wide research work of the creator. Shields Greenish was one of 3 of Hazel’s raiders who remained alive (with John Hazel) at the finish of the two-days fights. Two more who had waged war escaped but were considered occupied later in Pennsylvania. All were considered hanged by Virginia. As a man of unmixed African ancestry, his personality at the same time demeanor was the coolest disrespected of John Hazel’s followers. No photos are understandable of him, so his individualities are surviving in the art of David H. Strother, the artist-correspondent for Harper’s Once a week. The creator has produced good implementation of these pictures, which are held back at the West Virginia Institute Libraries.
