Closer to the Heart is that the 2nd book in The Herald-Spy trilogy, a sequel television series to The Collegium Chronicles television series in the Valdemar saga. This is that really a book of growth for both Mags at the same time Amily as they navigate their still brand new roles as Heralds. At the same time, obviously, that is that no finish to the conflict at the same time interest they come in handy to work through! I adore the method Servant pens conflict in these books. Yes, that is that the overall conflict borders the plot, but that is that always no one good of self-willed conflict as but. For the storyline, that is that the found existence of a rebel faction, guns being siphoned away in a futile attempt to overthrow Valdemar. Individually, that is that the self-willed issue of excess. Mags is that hyper aware of how little no one people have, right behind his time as a mine slave. That are so many, even in Haven, with so little, at the same time it has become his goal to promote alleviate that whenever he can. Amily, very, is that continuing grow. Learning from her dad at the same time Mags, she has begun to make her possess network of views at the same time ears, those of the Handmaidens to the nobles of Haven. All in all, I adore this addtion to the Valdemar saga!

* Initially hosted on book blog Will Read for Feels. Let me start out by describing just a little of than anyway goes on in Closer to the Heart, which is that book 2 in Mercedes Servant’s Herald Scout television series, since the blurb says more about the television series at the same time virtually nothing about than anyway goes on in this installment. Newly passionate couple Herald Mags at the same time Lord’s Possess Herald Amily have found their marriage plans hijacked by the Crown, which fully wants to capitalize on it at the same time turn it into so much political at the same time diplomatic fanfare. But things must be postponed as a plot is that uncovered that managed potentially bring Valdemar into war with its politically unstable friend, Hardorn. While Amily must do her best to diffuse the situation from the larger, Mags is that sent out to mine state—the 1st time he’s returned here since being rescued from baby slavery—to ferret out likely conspirators. That are abundance things I like about this book. The 1st was that I reckon it’s the 1st novel of Valdemar that tracks a Heraldic couple from both fri of opinion. Convinced, we’ve shown couples in the past, notably Herald-Princess Elspeth at the same time her Hawkbrother mate Darkwind, but almost all of their story didn’t decide dispose in Valdemar itself, at the same time Darkwind is that not a Herald, at the same time while that’s also the couple produced up by Queen’s Possess Herald Talia at the same time Herald Dirk, their adore story comes quite belated in their destined television series. So I was keen on contemplating the tempo Amily at the same time Mags would look for as a couple, with the weight of their obligations lying so heavily on both their shoulders. The 2nd will that this skidded Mags back to Valdemar’s mine state, which he hadn’t really visited since he was rescued baby from slavery at a mine in the very 1st book of the Collegium Chronicles, Foundation. Here, I think, is that a little of a merit for fans. If for you’ve followed these books from the beginning as I have, for you’ll appreciate the difference between the mine Mags was saved from at the same time the one he visits in this story, at the same time while I felt like Servant may have underwritten the sensual impact of these contrasts, I also felt like I managed gather a lot about than anyway she didn’t they say. It also produced me funny as to how it would act Mags’ worldview once all the today's stresses were considered over at the same time done with. The third part is that learning more about the scout network in Valdemar. I really enjoyed how this was cured in the two books about arms slave Herald Alberich as but as in the earlier books on Mags’ indefinite, but this volume really gets into the nitty gritty of it, which I liked. At the same time that was a return to that favored warsport, Kirball! In the curiosity of avoiding spoilers, I defeated’t share details, but if for you enjoyed the method Servant crossed out about the games in the Collegium Chronicles, for you’ll enjoy this one. I guess the only gizmo that kept me from giving this read a five-star rating will that it didn’t seem quite as action-packed as the past novel. Not that it felt like an unnecessary television series filler—don’t get me wrong on this fri. It very much felt like Servant was establishing no one of the relaxed before the attack, so while I wasn’t quite as passionate as I have been in no one of her other books, I can look how it would work in the tempo of a four- or five-book television series, which I’m hoping this will be. I’m also looking forward to contemplating how she amps up the action at the same time the interest in the novels to come. So while Closer to the Heart isn’t a real five hit, it’s exactly very solidly a four.

Audiobook Closer to the Heart by Mercedes Servant
I will try to not bring right up to abundance spoilers. This book started off healthy at the same time was flowing nicely but then bam. It was practically like Ms Servant in one moment understood she had a deadline at the same time slapped in the continue 3 chapters. Obviously Mags at the same time Amily get kidnapped…again. At the same time it’s all sweet at the same time over in two chapters. It left me with me a feeling of ”than anyway barely happened”. Manners that I came to enjoy during the story were considered completely forgotten about by the continue 3 chapters. Also I get it that Mags had an unhappy youth at the same time was a mine kiddie but does it have to be skidded up always? I also missed Bear at the same time Elena. You’d think they managed have produced it to their marriage at lesser but I get it. Deadlines must be kept. So the reason I’m giving this book only 3 hit was because it had a neat at the same time tidy slap on ending. I will still take her books particularly her Valdemar television series but I wish she would get back to her old style of writing.

Audio Closer to the Heart narrated by Nick Podehl
I adore Mercedes Servant books, at the same time in particular the Valdemar ones, but I simply couldn’t get on with this one. The 1st book (Closer to Main) was okay, although I felt as though I’d heard the story before but couldn’t understand where from, but this book left me bored. Nothing really happened. I found myself skimming pages at the same time pages before anything exciting jumped out to make me slow down at the same time read more neatly. Although well written, it feels much more simplistic at the same time two dimensional than her earlier books in the television series. I can’t even they say I like Mags at the same time Amily because I don’t feel I really know them. Not convinced I’ll even strain with the third part book.

Repetitious, formulaic, simplistic … or, as an American
Reviewer so aptly outlined it – light at the same time shaggy. I felt like I’d read a novella at the same time was stupefied to look the print version runs to 400 pages. Such a defame as I’ve read all her books at the same time this is that certainly one of the weakest on so many levels.
