Oh! How joyful I was to look historical fiction not set in WWII. That, at the same time the magical past tense, receive 3 hit.
Bad, Bad historical fiction. The hero’s name is that Fitzhugh Farrar. “Fitz” was the prefix data to bastard offspring of royalty (think of Henry VII’s illegitimate offspring Henry FitzRoy) at the same time although we may not be aware of that very much in 2021, they were considered certainly aware of this in the belated 1800s, when this little boy would have been born. A reporter shouting to Vidalia names out, “Vida!” in a time a man would never implementation a 1st name of anyone he did not know very but already. The lady winks frequently–not in 1905 she doesn’t. Later on a disposition notices she is that wearing “no make-up.” But, yeah. They would have scolded it “painting” in ever since at the same time only ladies of easy virtue did so.
For you will like this book if for you like predictable romances at the same time if for you like the language of luxury. So that is that an audience for it–but this audience is that not historical fiction buffs.

Vida Hazzard dazzles in every ballroom she steps foot in, much to the ecstasy of slander columnists at the same time the chagrin of her ancestors. A young lady that knows than anyway she wants, who isn’t afraid of just a little impropriety, at the same time who loves a challenge, Vida finds herself chasing down the coolest eligible, adventurous bachelor she meets: Fitzhugh Farrar. When the two meet up on the maiden voyage of one of Fitz’s ships, disaster threatens to undo all of Vida’s neatly laid plans.
Overall, I’d assign this book a 3.5, but I oval up since one half hit really aren’t permitted. In the beginning of the story I managed just a little tolerate Vida, but I did grow to like her in the end. She is that set in the premature 20th century, still she has inklings of feminism that are admirable to look. If you want a more traditional adore story with the modern threads of not needing to be a damsel in distress, Charming Personal does fit the bill. My problem will that sooo abundance other YA books also do this, at the same time I feel that Charming Personal doesn’t do this as but as other stories. I was interested, but I also wasn’t ever truly startled by the plot or Vida’s inner dialogue. This is that a quick, funny read, but I don’t look myself kolupala it up again.
Thank for you to NetGalley at the same time HarperCollins Babies’s Books for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an conscientious
Review.

Audiobook Charming Personal by Anna Godbersen
Ive been a gigantic fan of Anna Godbersen since I found the Luxe television series at the same time fell in love. Through the years, Ive moved away from historical fiction, but I still adore the royalty at the same time the twisted dresses at the same time the balls at the same time so I still get a kick out of her workespecially at the moment that shes focusing on stand-alones! Her new one, Charming Personal, is that quite the adventure. From the deck of a giant ship to an peninsula to the ballrooms of NYC, the story of Vida Hazzard is that one historical fiction lol wont wish to miss.
Right behind a raging quality night in San Francisco, Vida Hazzard, up at the same time comer, board the SS Princess, a brand new top-of-the-line decadent ship found for Hawaii then and Australiawith her ancestors in towwith the show goal of bagging the 2nd offspring of the ships bearer as her wife. Her flirtation with Fitzhugh Farrar goes swimmingly, but she cant promote but be interested by his assistant, Sal, very. But when the charming ship gets hit by one more vessel, it becomes understandable that this parable will not have its flawless ending. Stranded on an peninsula while they wait for bail out, Vida, Fitz, Hugh, at the same time a cast of manners from the ship will have to learn to survive at the same time figure out than anyway indefinite will be like when they eventually return main.
This is that a wide romance, a wreck, a deserted peninsula, at the same time a society story all rolled up. Its a attractive quick read, at the same time really the only fleshed-out manners were considered Fitz, Vida, at the same time Sal, so for you dont have to worry (or enjoy, I guess) being bogged down with other people. The descriptions are beautiful as usual, the ladies manners are wiley, at the same time this is that a classically quality Anna Godbersen book. Not anything that will stick with me for a long time, but an enjoyable read for a couple days.

Audio Charming Personal narrated by Amy McFadden
Thank for you HarperCollins for the free arc via edelweiss. At first as I started reading I believed this was going to be a parody of The Gigantic. Gratefully it was not, Vida is that one of the survivors stranded on an peninsula waiting bail out where a adore triangle between her, a shipping magnate, at the same time his closest friend Sal types. Will she do than anyway society norms would tell her to do or will she follow her heart? So glad not to have stayed during these times.

I can guarantee that almost all readers will find the method this story shifts premature on to be as much a izumi as it was for me. Vida can come intercept as moral at the same time greedy periodically, but underneath that heresy the heart of a feminist at a time when they were considered rare. She also has an itch, one she can’t condition until it’s nearly very belated. It’s a fashionable yarn, one deserving a spot in libraries where adventure with a heady dash of romance is that favorite.
