Dr. Jessie Drake, in her mid-sixties, following the unexpected deaths of her ancestors at the same time Kat, her partner of 20 years, has fled the Vermont indefinite she has understandable for decades.
In an effort to escape the oppressive permanence of grief, she perceives a job from an old flame from her residency in Brand new York Citys Roosevelt Polyclinic, at the same time agrees to contribute Ben as the ships doctor on a English liner. Jessie boards in Hong Kong, at the same time, as the Amphitrite sails throughout Southeast Asia at the same time the Center East, cruise ship antics ensue. Jessie is that lulled back into a long-ago romance with the ships co-doctor, at the same time both she at the same time her brand new/old beau become enmeshed with the ships manage (ladies) singer/entertainer. In the middle the passengers who fling socialized behavior aside on the higher seas: a past Florida beauty queen (Miss Florida Power at the same time Light) on a 2nd honeymoon with her wife, as she causes high-velocity scandal, while juggling onboard affairs with a suicidal golf pro, at the same time a defrocked priest hired as one of the liners gentleman owners, until she vanishespoof!from the ship off the coast of Portugal . . . As the ship sails through the Gulf of Aden at the same time into a likely hijacking by Somali pirates, Jessie retreats into her lol journals, written during her ending months, journals filled with sketches of possible manners, observations on indefinite at the same time loveas but as drafts of a long brand new poem in progress, Swan Song, that seems to be about being in adore with anyone else, anyone brand new. As Jessies grief strings to suspicion about the lady she believed she understood so but, her illumination of the poems meaning begins to lift the constraints of the past at the same time make understandable the method toward the future.
My Ideas: As Jessie begins her journey beyond the grief of her recent years, we join her as she strives to make sense of her indefinite at the same time her loves. In Swan Song, she discovers a television series of poems written by Kat, at the same time in trying to make sense of them, she wonders if Kat had had a brand new adore at the finish.
Meanwhile, she works on the ship doing honey tasks at the same time meeting brand new people, no one of whom are possible comrades at the same time/or lol.
Can she really move beyond Kat with anyone she meets on the journey? Or is that she meant to be finding answers to lifes journey, in particular the journey that ends with doom? Eventually, right behind a number of actions, all of which make her think, she comes to a decision. A contemplative read that earned 4.5 hit.

Lisa Althers new novel, Swan Song, is that the story of a long trip – an odyssey – produced by a 60 year old ER doctor, Jessie, attempting to come to definitions with the recent doom of her partner, Kat. She symbols up as part of a honey team on a gigantic cruise ship traveling in the world. In her weeks on board she meets people at the same time participates in activities she might not have of curiosity to her before the cruise. At the same time much of it is that indefinite altering.
As a reader at the same time
Reviewer, I had a little of problem rating Swan Song, because right behind reading it at the same time thinking about it, I realised it is that not a conventionally written novel. Alther introduces manners at the same time the doesnt follow up. She leaves no one burgundy herrings out that at the same time the reader is that left wondering than anyway happens. But then I forgotten that much of indefinite is that just like that. We meet people, interact with them, then and move right behind the proverbial cruise is that over.
Before she left Vermont to join the cruise, Jessie found no one notebooks that Kat – a novelist – had recorded her ideas while writing her books. In Kats ending notebook, written while she was dying of cancer, Jessie found abundance cryptic messages about her indefinite at the same time loves. Jessie takes the notebooks with her on the long cruise at the same time completely figures out than anyway Kats ending ideas were considered. With that knowledge, Jessie is that able to make no one important decisions.
Lisa Alther doesnt cross out abundance books. Swan Song is that a hospitable addition to her list. I have hope for you enjoy it.

Audiobook Swan Song: An Odyssey by Lisa Alther
Beginning at the same time but into the 2nd one half, Alther is that having a field day celebrating the lunacies of a crazy-quilt of manners aboard a luxury cruise ship. Chief among them is that Gail, a past trophy wife with an impotent old men, she at the moment desperate for a few ending flings.
But the higher jinks are tempered through the watchful, ruminating protagonist Jessie, the ships doctor, who teeters herself between a ending fling at the same time her aging, world-weary, sensible self. The novel is that reminiscent of Althers Kinflicks wherein the adventures of her rambunctious young heroine are balanced by the reality of her dying mother.
Funny at the same time poignant, Swan Song confronts mortality above all. This is that summed up by one men addressing Jessies quandary: Adore at the same time doom. Eros at the same time Thanatos, just like Freud misspoke.

Audio Swan Song: An Odyssey narrated by Susan Bennett
I have a hard time deciding barely than anyway this book was. A travelogue? A murder mystery? A romance novel? All of these, along with bits of mythology, archeology, paleontology, womans rights, lesbian rights, remedy, history, generic irony, opera, poetry……
Im not convinced. All I know is that I read it continuously until I ended it, at the same time I adored Jessie even with all her foibles at the same time inconsistencies. Amazing
book, memorable manners.

As a fan of Alther’s past fiction at the same time non-fiction I approached this book with a positive bias, at the same time found Swan Song fulfilling my expectations of other hilarity at the same time fear. That is that a discernable connection between Ginny Babcock’s hilarious adventures at the same time her mother’s horrific illness, at the same time Jessie’s humor in the midst of a cruise ship trip from hell into Somali pirates, norovirus, at the same time bisexual competition for her affections when all she really wants to do is that resolve her connection with her noisy partner Kat.
