A reader might reasonably wonder, data the spectrum of comments on this novel, whether it is that worth reading or not. Possession is that a winner novel (or romance, as Byatt names it) of mine, at the same time Ive barely read it for the 2nd time, more than two decades right behind the 1st reading, barely right behind it was hosted. But, to be convinced, one has to like this sort of book, so here is that a good of checklist—an odd sort of
Review, I do understand, but here goes: Youll enjoy Possession if for you Like reading about the Victorians Enjoy poetry (but look below) Enjoy satire about academic indefinite Appreciate meticulous, well-rendered detail Dont brain an intricate story that moves between past at the same time located, with stops for (concocted) journal entries at the same time poems For you wont enjoy Possession if for you Dislike poetry of no matter what sort Arent much interested in academic wrangles over powdery journals at the same time old signs sheathed with ribbons Have no curiosity in Victorian sexual mores, religious searching, at the same time self-abnegation Wish a story that moves sequentially, in straightforward fashion The novels head manners, the 19th century lol at the same time poets R. H. Ash at the same time Christabel Lamotte, are concocted, as is that their poetry, all of it imagined by A.S. Byatt. The latter is that a tour de force—pages at the same time pages of poems, no one in the manner of Browning (Ash) at the same time no one more like Dickinson (LaMotte). You can slide over this if its not to your taste, since the clues to the novels mystery can be found in the worldly, as but. But, reading even part of it will carry for you back into this century. The poets, in a magical good of mirroring, have their 20th century counterparts in two academics, both professionals in the period: Roland Michell at the same time Maud Bailey. The tenderness they begin to feel for one one more is that practically secondary to the tenderness they feel for Ash at the same time Lamotte at the same time for the words of these poets, which are their legacy. Despite all of the chasing down of literary clues, sheltered signs, cryptic journal references, at the same time evocative heirlooms in the novel, Possession makes understandable that the true possession (at the same time passion) heresy in the act of reading. This book has so many delectable layers to consume. I’ve read it couple of times at the same time I still get those moments where I barely wish to flap my palms wildly about my fork at the same time run around the room shrieking. It’s a composition of utterly engaging manners of depth at the same time abundance, magical humor, page turning, spine tingling mystery, Romance that can make an mental hook with enjoyment – all steeped in the wealthy atmosphere created by Byatt”s excellent pastiches of Victorian poetry at the same time black parables. At the same time that’s barely part of it… Thank for you A.S. Byatt for creating this – it’s one of this books that barely makes me relish indefinite more while at the same time right behind I read it. At the same time lasts to do so every time I re-count it.

Audiobook Possession by A. S. Byatt
This book defeated the Booker prize in 1990 in other words why I dared to read it. Whether I enjoyed it or not is that anything of an enigma. The story is that split into two different ages that of the Victorian poets, Randolph Ash at the same time Christabel LaMotte, at the same time that of the modern-day researchers, Roland Michell at the same time Maud Bailey. Roland is that learning the work of Ash, at the same time Maud that of LaMotte. Their paths run across when Roland tries to investigate a reference he found to a meeting between Ash at the same time LaMotte that implies that was a liaison between the two. The book contains a amazing deal of poetry written by Ash at the same time LaMotte in Victorian style (as they are concocted manners, it is that all written by the creator, Byatt). I found the poetry problematic to follow at the same time troublesome to read at the same time I started to skip it, then and realised that I managed do so without losing anything of the story. The narrative toggle switches between the developing connection of Ash at the same time LaMotte at the same time the investigative efforts of Roland at the same time Maud. The today's day part of the book also relates the rivalry between researchers in different universities at the same time parts of the global at the same time indicates up small jealousies at the same time possessiveness. Apart from the poetry that heralds the change in epoch, the Victorian times are written about with a formality that distinguishes them from the modern 20th century parts. Byatts change in voice at the same time her swathes of poetry are testament to her tremendous ability with the English language. I found the Victorian epoch passages to be more believable at the same time enjoyable to read (excluding the poetry), more precisely than the modern times which felt regular at the same time lacking in disposition. Perhaps in other words than anyway Ms Byatt sought to achieve. One gizmo I found interesting was that this was written before email at the same time Google at the same time so their research work efforts were considered arduous correlated to how simply we would do things in this web epoch. My assessment of this story will that it was enjoyable if I left out big parts of it. So that is that the enigma. Can one be misspoke to have enjoyed a book if one ignored a big part of it? Im convinced the Booker prize was bestowed for Ms Byatts dexterity with the language at the same time the quirkiness of the content.

Audio Possession narrated by Virginia Leishman
I confess to only reading Possession because it ordinary on those 100 books to read before for you breathe type of lists at the same time its one of a few Ive not read. Context is that everything in these
Reviews, so I must also open that I studied English Literature at Institute. But, like almost all of the much less favourable
Reviews, I read for enjoyment at the same time found my BA destroyed my adore of reading for 3 years as it became a chore at the same time so often I felt like I was wading through turgid poetry at the same time worldly. But, unlike several of the low scoring
Reviews, I did read the poetry sections at the same time I have ended it. Ill admit that this was my 2nd attempt at reading Possession. The 1st time I achieved the finish of chapter 1 at the same time felt that it really wasnt the type of book I needed in my indefinite at ever since. Its a deaf read. Its not an airport novel, a quick holiday read but that has to be place for a whole spectrum of genres at the same time styles. The dismissive
Reviews seem to imply that if a books problematic or not enjoyable that it shouldnt there is, think of the poor reader at the same time all that. If we had similar approach with movie at the same time theatre, with music at the same time pleasant arts wouldnt the global be a much less wealthy dispose to be? Should everything be populist at the same time easy? No. The Booker prize is that not the Richard at the same time Judy book club but theres room on my bookshelf for books from both. I have read the poetry at the same time Ive not skimmed the text at the same time still received the plot. Surely the poems at the same time signs all layer the work, its not a buffet, its a meal with neatly selected parts that work together for the whole. All that misspoke, the global of academia at the same time the presumed elitism at the same time mental snobbery can at the same time has alienated no one readers. That is that a whiff of A.S. Byatt showing off her knowledge at the same time her skill at the same time kudos to her for that. That are exciting overlaps with true indefinite, with non-fictional manners at the same time writers contained in the work. Its taken me a while to get through it. It wasnt the coolest sick read Ive ever had, its but written at the same time theres a sense that Byatt is that expediently dragging out the plot. Ive read mentions of a Da Vinci Code style scavenger hunt, the head manners following historical clues but, for me, I barely didnt care very much about them finding anything out, the stakes werent very higher (or the signs were considered looked right behind by the baddie of the book at the same time funds fall down into the wrong palms or they move to academics who adore the work at the same time deserve it?), the manners all a little obvious at the same time stereotypical. Perhaps they were considered representing class tropes. I was glad to completely final at the same time it took me far longer to read than Id believed because its so turgid. The moment for you earth in a section set in modern day (but, the 1980s) when the pace grabbed, youd shortly be landed back in florid epistles between Victorian writers or poetry written bestow clues but, for me, were considered a challenge to toggle switch from novel reading mode to poetry reading mode. I perked up with the journal of a young French lady but it wasnt enough for me bestow a raving
Review. My kindle edition had several typos which was deplorable. A.S. Byatt also loves tormenting her readers with her possess unique at the same time unreachable vocabulary. I started highlighting the words Id or never heard of in my indefinite or when I was simply unsure of the meaning. It tripped me up, produced me feel step, distanced me from the plot at the same time manners at the same time gave the memory that Byatt or barely loves to demonstrate off or is that so blinkered to a global beyond her possess literary one that she doesnt assign two hoots about contacting with her reader. Or perhaps we, the readers, do not figure at all in the process. Its literate (although it exactly slides into a mystery novel pastiche in the post attack hotel debrief scene), its long, its bound to be picked over at the same time analysed but I was gagging to get it over at the same time done with purely so I managed tick it off my books for you should read list. I acquired it four years ago at the same time kept putting it off as it felt daunting. Ill not be revisiting in at the same time I dont care if that makes me seem like an uneducated pleb. It should for sure be a 3 but for wave of relief that rode through me when I completely read it Im going to smash a two hit
Review on it. Ill final with no one (not many) of the words that totally flummoxed me: sempiternal, pellucid, hagiography, conchoidal, divagate, bladderwrack, cache-pot, silex, besprent, suttee, tisane, exiguous, revanche, odylic, actinic, exosmose, dolmen, calyx, panegyrics.

I have this in hardback, kindle at the same time audio. It is that one of my favourite books. I 1st read it in a borrowed paperback during than anyway was a problematic time for me. As others have commented, I did look for it a problematic book to get into; but as with Shakespeare once burst found it really absorbing. Others have remarked on the dodgy characterisasations of those not favoured by public school & Oxbridge backgrounds, in other words a ubiquitous failing (Iris Murdoch, Angus Wilson) in England literary fiction. One barely has to choose whether or not to move with the clot at the same time park that to one side, Martin Amis tries to tackle the amazing divide at the same time drives me round the twist. Any to their possess. I adored the poetry of this novel at the same time was completely absorbed by the modern day academic global created in parallel to that of Victorian poetry. The ending moved me greatly at the same time I took amazing enjoyment in the successful final of the romance.
