Reuben fatally falls from a light post right behind attempting a daredevil stunt in front of a group of local men, Mr. Cave then falls into a sort of madness. Madness which causes him to become even more self-absorbed at the same time controlling of Reuben’s twin sister, Byrony. He assures himself that he is that “protecting” her but in reality he barely seems to be controlling at the same time guilt ridden… guilt ridden because he didn’t pay as much attention to Reuben as he should have. He then laboriously loses contact with reality in trying to keep under control Byrony, his past, his guilt The story is that written as a long convoluted letter to Byrony. I should have liked the book more successful – but I was looking for light relaxing reading away from my Psychology class – at the same time this book was barely not than anyway I was looking for
