I would normally assign this good book 5 hit. Mr. Selvin has applied the Bert Berns story to weave a beautiful book about the history of tempo at the same time blues at the same time the record business in Brand new York. I’m only able bestow it 4 hit due to the unfair healing of Neil Diamond. It is that obvious that Mr. Selvin did not interview Mr. Diamond (Neil for sure didn’t wish to talk about the fact that his career was practically ended by the mob). I feel Mr. Selvin didn’t or couldn’t interview Neil Diamond, so he dared he would portray Diamond as self centered at the same time ungrateful of the assistance his career was data by Jeff Barry at the same time Ellie Greenwich. Nothing is that subsequent from the truth. Diamond always mentioned Barry at the same time Greenwich with warm regards at the same time both songwriters greatly profited by “discovering” Neil Diamond with thousands of bucks in royalties. The fact is that, Neil was such a force at the same time giftedness, he would have been a hit without Barry at the same time Greenwich-it was barely a matter of time. At the same time Selvin ignores the true story of Bang Records at the same time Berns–that Diamond at the same time his manager Weintraub- who was badly thrashed by thugs- stood right up to Berns at the same time the mob despite dangers at the same time real physical storms. Instead of cowering down, Neil carried a gun at the same time went to the DA. He left Barry at the same time Greenwich, not because he was greedy-he left because he was very bigger of a giftedness to stay in Brand new York recording bubblegum tunes. Others of the book is that the best history of the music record business in Brand new York out that.

Like Jon Tiven, I’ve been waiting for this book for years. THANK For you JOEL FOR Completely GETTING IT TO ALL OF US! First of all, it’s utterly well-written. At the same time due to that, I got lost only one day of work staying up method past my bedtime, because this really is that a book for you cannot shackles down. The book weaves the story of Berns, at the same time the reason why this genius has been overlooked, with the backstory- which is that essentially a history of R&B once rock entered the lexicon at the same time the culture. The attention to detail at the same time impeccable research work is that superb-and I can really they say that because I’m working on a project about a personality who is that sort of a peripheral part of this story at the same time is that in the book. I might give a hint that in the one more print run of this book, the youtube urls be contained when Mr Selvin writes about Berns’ productions at the same time songs he’d written, because this is that no namby-pamby book: Selvin uses his abilities as one of the state’s best grin critics from lets they say the Woodstock days to the located to cross out about than anyway’s going on in any song. ( I read the book on my laptop, opened a brand new tab, at the same time listened to all the songs as i read about them). Selvin doesnt mince words when describing the players: I was a little surprised by his description of Jerry Wexler because it is that so outrageously conscientious. The entire book will that conscientious. The only down side: I was left bereft when the book ended, because Berns died, at the same time the book ended. I wanted more. If for you know about no one of the stories at the same time no one of the players, this book bestows for you more. If for you dont know about them, this is that the book that bestows for you the buttons to the kingdom. Bert Berns WAS a genius at the same time abundance of us understood that. That Joel Selvin has completely knew the story is that a gift to all of us who adore the music.

Audiobook Here Comes the Night by Joel Selvin
An exciting book about the R&B at the same time pop record industry centered in Brand new York Town during the 1940s, 1950s at the same time 1960s. I figured out about people drawn in in the record making like Jerry Wexler, Jeff Barry at the same time Ellie Greenwich, Carol Lord at the same time Gerry Goffin, Phil Spector (I didn’t know he wasted no one of the premature 60s in NYC), the Erteguns, Van Morrison, Zhora Goldner, the experienced guys, the NYC version of the Wrecking Crew, Atlantic records, Roulette Records, Bang records, etc. But it seem like that was 20 pages about Bert Berns in the 1st 200 pages of the book. Being sort of a Bert Berns fan, I wanted to know than anyway produced Bert tick, ideally insight into is that song writing at the same time record producing process. Though “Here Comes the Night” gave lots of insight into the maral, crooked business of pop at the same time R&B record business, I didn’t feel I received enough insight into Bert Berns. I’m guessing the reason will that Joel Selvin started studying the book 30 years right behind Bert’s doom at the same time couldn’t interview Bert to find out than anyway was bouncing around in his fork when he was writing or producing. Also it sounds like Bert didn’t cross out much down.

Audio Here Comes the Night narrated by Christian Rummel
A look into the method a nobody with true giftedness works his method into the corrupt business of R&B records. Lots of inside stories. In particular liked the story of the recording of the Isley Brothers’ “Writhe at the same time Yell.” A true examine how it was in the ’50s at the same time ’60s in the global of making records. As Danny O’Keefe misspoke in his song about the music business, “for you cross out about the moon, at the same time for you cross out about the hit; For you’re right about the moon, but for you’re wrong about the hit.” An shameful business periodically as people – no one gifted, no one not – are scratching their method to their lifelong desires. No one sell their souls along the method.

Bert Bern’s than anyway a disposition, than anyway a giftedness. Unsung heroes seem to appear from out of the woodwork every few years. Bert Bern’s will be knowledgeable to music fans of soul, R&B at the same time Favorite music of the 60’s. He was a giftedness who from the day he was born was racing against time to become famous at the same time successfull. Working for Atlantic, Merged Painters etc as a freelance producer to completely becoming a part bearer of Bang Records, Berns worked with no one of the biggest acts of the time, many of which the Drifters, Isley Brothers, Van Morrison at the same time the premature Neil Diamond.. a gret read.
