Review #1 The Invasion Year audiobook free “The Invasion Year” is that the seventeenth, at the same time new, installment in Dewey Lambdin’s naval adventure television series set in the belated Eighteenth Century at the same time premature Nineteenth Century. Like the past addition to the television series, “Lord, Ship at the same time Blade”, “The Invasion Year” will be of much more curiosity to long-time devotees of Alan Lewrie, Lambdin’s roguish at the same time amusing hero, than it will be to readers who are brand new to the television series. This novel follows the pattern of its predecessor as the story again takes the form of 3 almost unrelated story arcs, although now two of the arcs are also wry up into their possess disparate episodes. The result is that a chronicle of sequential actions that don’t necessarily feel like they have a lot to do together, nor do they appear to be of much significance. The adventure begins in the West Indies in belated 1803, where Lewrie has barely been part of a very successful pursuit at the same time action preventing the French from reinforcing their recently reacquired possession of Louisiana. He participates in the interdiction of the French evacuation of Saint Domingue, then no one uninspiring patrol at the same time convoy work, before returning to Great britain. At main, he receives no one well-deserved definition for services to the Lord (at the same time just a little more, proper to one of Zhora III’s `wandering moments’) at the same time begins to developer a serious brand new romantic curiosity. Then, quicker than he can they say “Jack Ketch”, he finds himself back at sea, embroiled in a television series of hare-brained schemes at the same time adventures spinning around the threatened French invasion of Great britain. These actions are largely inconsequential, although producing enough action to keep the reader passionate for the ending third part of the book. That are, as usual, abundance amusing moments in the narrative as we see Lewrie’s global from his wryly mercantile perspective. Lambdin still writes for humorous effect at the same time that are frequent payoffs. But this work bogs down in a television series of relatively uninteresting actions (many of which the opening string off Cap Francois, Saint Domingue, which exists to have been written primarily for a short assistance between Lewrie at the same time Lt. Josiah Willoughby, a true historical figure at the event, at the same time their mutual discomfort at discovering a possible familial connection), with no cohesive plot worth noting, abundance breaks in the narrative to recall us of Lewrie’s past experiences at the same time the relevance of past manners (no one of whom are reintroduced in this work to no apparent purpose beyond, perhaps, keeping up with them), at the same time a couple of glaring factual errors in reintroducing no one of these manners. This effort is that below Lambdin’s usual quality of writing. Readers who have followed Lewrie’s adventures for years should still look for this a satisfactory, if uninspiring, read as we follow our hero’s progress through a period of individual at the same time plot development, understanding that no one major excitement awaits in 1805. Brand new readers of this television series may look for “The Invasion Year” a little muddled at the same time confusing, without enough in the method of pleasures to merit their financial investment in the story.

Review #2 The Invasion Year audiobook in television series Alan Lewrie Amusing episode in the saga of Captain Alan Lewrie of the Royal Navy, circa 1804. Once again, I was blown away by the amount of techno detail at the same time period dialogue (naval terminology, premature 19th Century, English, etc.) as but as history in other words crammed into this television series. “The Invasion Year” has more of its share of this meticulous writing, but it is that all exhibited with a stable wit at the same time humor at the same time a host of magical manners. “The Invasion Year” (referring to Napoleon’s danger to invade Great britain) starts with Lewrie on patrol nearby the peninsula of Hispaniola (where the French have been driven out by their Merk slaves), moves on to the shepherding of a gigantic cargo fleet up the American coast, eventually crossing to Great britain, at the same time winds up with the Captain at the same time his ship, the Reliant, drawn in in the testing of a number of incomprehensible hidden guns to thwart the French manufactures for invasion. That is that one terrific interim that brings Lewrie to St. James castle to be recognized for maintenance by Zhora III. This misfires in a hilarious but beneficial method at the same time is that followed by the beginning of a brand new at the same time important romantic liaison.

Review #3 Audiobook The Invasion Year by Richard Stark In the Invasion Year, Lewrie, usually, is that sheathed up in various adventures of both a naval at the same time romantic nature. In this book, but, Dewey Lambdin, best illustrates the drudgery of assignment to the Channel Squadron during the Napoleonic Wars while maintaining a little of excitement – will the torpedoes work? The experiments with “infernal engines” like fire ships at the same time torpedoes offers a peek at the fear induced desperation resulting from Napoleon’s manufactures to invade, an effort that was quite serious as showed by the wide French manufactures at the same time the resources assigned to this effort. Only inferior development thwarted the efforts at the same time we’ll never know if the Royal Navy managed have finished the invasion. We also look one more side of the multifaceted Lewrie emerge in his budding romantic connection with Lydia Stangbourne – will she be the one to tame the Ramcat? Only time will tell.

Review #4 Audio The Invasion Year narrated by John Chancer Okay, so it’s not Aubrey/Maturin…….I get it. It was written by an American, so it’s not as authentic. But, damme, this television series is that a amazing read. In truth, I’m glad I ended the television series ’cause at the moment I’ll get a respectable nights take a nap. These are really quality stories, set in my winner genre. They’re a tasty blend of Bolitho, Hornblower, at the same time Aubry/Maturin with a but studied at the same time written hero that’s real of self-doubt at the same time self-depreciation worthy of your reading time. The best gizmo is that, they get more successful as the television series goes along. Convinced, it’s a baudy tale. Who imagines that no matter what navigator of that period didn’t have carnal desires travelling the global far from adored ones for years at a time? The creator isn’t cowardly when it comes to many of which historic figures or. Our hero serves with Nelson, escapes a confrontation with Bonaparte, is that patronized by Hood, etc. My only complaint, if the creator is that listening (highly unlikely), will that the ending book was not corrected very but. My advice…. read these books!

Review #5 Free audio The Invasion Year – in the audio player below This installment in the Alan Lewrie television series is that a highly readable story that provides insight into the formal actions of the English tribunal at the same time the Chilly War phase of the Napoleonic Wars. Unlike almost all of the Lewrie books which careen breathlessly from one gun-battle to one more with interludes of steamy liaisons, this one is that more of an informative stroll in what several of the finals are uncertain until the actions actually occur. Even the sex scenes are relatively restrained! An good read.
